League News
Lockwood Cons 'A' recorded two 9-0 wins in 24 hours this week to take over at the top of the Section 1 table from Elland C&BC 'A'. On Monday they played at Lindley Liberal to rack up a maximum score in their delayed fixture although this result is the subject of further investigation due to the playing of 2 ineligible bowlers. Then on Tuesday, the Cons racked up another whitewash win this time at home against Meltham 'A' to suddenly surge 6 points clear with the section's only 100% win record. Elland C&BC 'A' retained their interest in the destiny of the title with a 6-3 away win at bottom-of-the-table Thongsbridge 'A' who are still awaiting their first win of the season. Cowcliife were on a high last week after beating the league leaders but came right down to earth this week when surprisingly handing Netherton Con their first win of the season as they beat their high-flying opponents 6-3. Good 7-2 home wins for Golcar Lib, Lindley Lib and Waterloo whilst the closest top-flight fixture saw visitors Crosland Moor edge past Rastrick 5-4 courtesy of a 119-118 aggregate scoreline.
It is all-change in Section 2 as previous leaders Broad Oak 'A' lost their unbeaten record at Hemplow 'A' by 3-6 as the home side won for the first time this year. However Broad Oak may well benefit from the fall-out of the playing of ineligible bowlers in a Section 1 match as this may well provide them with an extra point or two. That wasn't the only unbeaten record to go by the way this week in that Section as Kirkheaton Con 'A' lost that tag with a 3-6 home loss to Thorpe Green who extended their winning run to 5 matches and go third as a result. However it is Lindley BC 'A' who benefitted most with a 6-3 away win at Paddock sent them into top-spot due to a better Aggregate For total. The tightest match in the Section this week saw a 126-126 aggregate draw with Lockwood Con 'B' winning 5-4 at Kirkheaton C&BC 'A'. Almondbury BC 'A' had a good home win over high-flying Bradley & Colne by 7-2 and Shepley won 6-3 at Brockholes 'A' to send their hosts down into a relegation slot.
Holmfirth 'A' and Golcar Lib 'B' both won away from home and now sit 1st and 2nd in the Section 3 table with the Golcar side retaining the Section's only unbeaten record after a 6-3 win at Meltham 'B' which included the top individual performance in the whole league this week when winning by 21-3. They were both good winners against top-half teams but things remain close as Lowerhouses move into the frame following their 8-1 home win over Slaithwaite who had been featuring well with a 100% win record until this week. It is all change at the foot of the table as Almondbury Lib shoot out of the drop zone into the top half of the table following their 7-2 win over Outlane who go back to the bottom spot. Marsh United 'B' and Springwood both had 7-2 home wins over fellow strugglers Brockholes 'B' and Lindley Lib 'B' as they all change places but with still only 6 points between the bottom 7 teams which will continue to tax the nerves of those involved.
There are now only 6 unbeaten teams in the League and 3 of those are in Section 4 who all extended those runs this week. Interesting times at the top with three teams still with 100% win records and it is no surprise that they lead the way and have started to open up a little gap. Lindley BC 'B' matched the table-topping achievement of their 'A' side in Section 2 after beating Almondbury BC 'B' 7-2 which means that the losers stay in the relegation places. Denby Dale extended their winning sequence following a 7-2 home win over Thongsbridge 'B' and Huddersfield Recreation also continued the winning run with a very good 6-3 win away at Milnsbridge 'B'. A 9-0 home win for Primrose Hill Lib over 7-man Kirkheaton Con 'B' pushed them into contention and 4th place with Elland C&BC 'B' winning for the first time when despatching Ravensknowle Park back over the M62 with 3 of the 9 points.
We start almost at the bottom of Section 5 as Broad Oak 'B' won their first match of the season and what a result it was as they saw off the Section leaders Kirkheaton C&BC 'B' by 7-2 although that wasn't good enough to move them out of the bottom 2 as the teams either side of them both won as well. That saw Dalton beat New Mill 'B' 7-2 and bottom team David Brown Sports also win for the first time with a 6-3 home win over Greenhead Park. With the Kirkheaton side losing their game and top place it is left to Marsh Lib to take over at the top after a very good 6-3 away victory over the Rugby Club. Just 3 points between the top 5 teams as Holmfirth 'B' sit in the middle of that leading trio after rocketing up 4 places after an emphatic 8-1 home win over Hemplow 'B' who were one of the four teams they passed on their way upwards. Being so close it is clear that these swings are likely to be happening on a regular basis for a few weeks yet.
