Preview of the last fixtures of the Division 1 season at Milnsbridge on Wednesday

Just two issues still to be resolved in the Division 1 season with the runners-up position to be sorted with three teams still in contention. Thorpe Green A are the Division 1 Champions but who will finish closest to them? Cowcliffe A are in prime position and 4 points ahead of Lower Hopton and New Mill A as we go into the final round of fixtures.

Cowcliffe may need all of those 4 points advantage as they have to take on the Champions as a final measure into their progress this season, their first in the top flight. Should Cowcliffe win that final fixture then the outcome is cut and dried. But if they don't win it then it is all up in the air as Lower Hopton and New Mill A will fancy their chances against Kirkheaton Con A and Lindley BC A respectively.

Already relegated are Lindley Lib A and Meltham A. The Lindley Lib team has been in the League for four years. Twice they have been promoted from Division 2 to Division 1 both times as runners-up. Twice they have been relegated from Division 1 to Division 2. It would probably be their greatest achievement to bounce straight back for a third time looking at the likely make-up of Division 2 teams for next season.

The Top Bowler in Division 1 is still to be decided with Graham Hirst (Lower Hopton) and Derrick Hewitt (Cowcliffe) level on 11 wins each with the Aggregate Difference favouring Graham at present. This is the first season that Derrick has played in Division 1 although he did win the Division 2 Top Bowler award last season his first in the League winning all 15 of the matches he played. Graham has now played in the League for four years and should he top the table again this season that would make him a three-times winner.
