Two title deciders on Monday

Winter League

A preview of the Divisions 3 and 4 fixture programmes for Monday 19 February

Springwood B and Lowerhouses B have the pleasure of playing each other twice on Monday as they catch up with a fixture postponed on 4 December. The first match will start at 10am and by playing all three games at the same time should be finished ready for a normal 11.30am start along with the other teams.

The Division 3 title is likely to be decided on Monday when the top two teams face each other. It is Marsh United versus the leaders Hanging Heaton who have an 18-points lead but Marshhave a match in hand with three still to play.

Marsh United inflicted the only defeat on the leaders but that was the first match of the season for Hanging Heaton and also their first match at Primrose Hill Lib and their first ever Winter League match. They have never looked back from that defeat winning the next 13 fixtures to take over at the top. Both teams are already promoted and a win for Hanging Heaton would give them the title as well.

Primrose Hill Lib sit in the second relegation place but have won 20 of their 30 points in their last 5 matches to raise hopes of escaping relegation. They meet Dalton this Monday who are 8 points ahead of them and have played a match more so a big win would open up the escape pathway.

Although not yet mathematically relegated Paddock I&C are in dire straits and could be put out of their misery this week if they go down to Milnsbridge B. Lindley Lib B and Thorpe Green B are separated by four points and are in 4th and 5th positions respectively so this fixture is all about pride as the Thorpe Green side try to overturn the advantage the Lindley side currently have.

In Division 4 Thorpe Green C will claim a second consecutive title success if they beat Almondbury BC A this Monday. Second-placed New Mill B are without a match this week so will be watching on with added interest but equally of interest will be the outcome of the Lindley Lib C v Netherton Con B match as both teams can still beat them to the promotion party.

Almondbury BC A's hopes of avoiding relegation rest in their final two matches which are against the top two teams in the division. Defeat this week against Thorpe Green C will send them down. Kirkheaton C&BC will be looking to get a win from their fixture against Milnsbridge C which will keep them out of the drop zone. However the probable move to eight teams in each division for next season could still cost them their future at this level.
