Two Top v Bottom clashes this week

Veterans League

Preview of the fixtures in Divisions 3,4&5 for Tuesday 27 August

A top v bottom clash gives the Division 3 leaders, Elland WMC, the perfect platform to stride away from their prime rival for the title, Denby Dale, who sit just 4 points behind them. The Denby Dale team also have a home fixture and that is against Hemplow A who surprised the Elland team last week by beating them 5-4. The Elland side will be hoping that Hemplow reproduce the same level of performance for this week's encounter.

With Elland expected to pick up the majority of the points at Skel Windmill it brings into focus the Thorpe Green v Outlane match. These are the two teams fighting to steer clear of the second relegation spot currently occupied by the Thorpe Green team who have won their last three fixtures whilst Outlane have lost their last three.

There is another top v bottom clash in Division 4 as the leaders Marsh United B travel, but not very far, to play Lindley BC B. Despite being bottom of the division the Lindley team have won their last four home matches but will need more than a win to reel in the teams currently at least 15 points above them.

The Brockholes B v Meltham B fixture sees the two teams just above bottom place going head-to-head in this 18-point match. Both teams have won 2 of their last 4 matches so anything can happen but home advantage has to be used if Brockholes expect to fend off this challenge. With 9 points between the teams a home win could prove decisive in this relegation fight.

Lockwood Con B, Kirkheaton C&BC B and Milnsbridge will all consider themselves to be in with a chance of claiming the second promotion place but as the Cricket Club are the only one of the three with a home fixture this week they will expect to move up in the race for that spot.

This week could be key in the Division 5 title race as leaders Netherton Con B have to go to play Kirkheaton Con B whilst their nearest rivals, David Brown Sports have a home match against bottom-of-the-table Holmfirth B. Neither team can afford to falter at this stage of the season with only six points between them but the pressure is on David Brown Sports who cannot afford to fall further behind although they have the comfort of a 9-point safety margin in the promotion race.
