Review of matches played in the Veterans 6-Man League on Monday 15 July
There were no less than four 4-3 score-lines in the 6-Man League this week, all of them in Division 1. But it wasn't a 4-3 scoreline that caught the eye first of all. That came in the match between top-of-the-pile Marsh United A at third-placed Waterloo. The home side being victorious by 6-1 to close the gap between the teams to a single point.
Shepley A are very much in touch with the top two despite going down 3-4 at Brockholes A and Skel Windmill A wouldn't wish to be discounted either as they sit fourth and 10-points behind the leader after a 6-1 home win over Golcar C&BC.
The bottom three all picked up valuable points with Crosland Moor's exploits being the most impressive as they won 6-1 away at Netherton Con to make it three wins on the trot and continue to climb away from the drop zone. The Lockwood Con line-up included 4 Conneelys who went on to beat Thongsbridge A by 4-3 but remain 14 points off safety. Paddock I&C were also on the wrong end of a 3-4 scoreline and still occupy the 2nd relegation place.
Clayton West took their unbeaten season-long run to 15 with a 5-2 away success at Milnsbridge B and have a 7-point lead at the top of the Division 2 table. Marsh Lib A and Bradley & Colne remain very much in the frame in 2nd and 3rd places. Marsh Lib A won 6-1 away at Lindley Lib B whilst Bradley & Colne conceded 2nd place after a 5-2 away defeat at Greenhead Park A.
The bottom three teams all lost their matches this week and that suited Linthwaite Hall to a tee after they had a 7-0 home win over Almondbury Lib.
Meltham made it five Division 3 fixture wins on the bounce with a great 5-2 away win at Thongsbridge B who hang on to third place despite that setback. However they are now 18-points behind the leader, Brockholes A, and 10-points off a promotion place as the top two both won this week. Brockholes B won 6-1 away at Marsh United B and Denby Dale had a 5-2 home success over Brockholes C. Denby Dale have the best win record in the Division by only losing once all season. That still isn't good enough to secure them top spot and they are 8 points behind the leader.
Shepley B had a second win of the season when seeing off Greenhead Park B by 6-1 but remain rooted to last place. Good home wins for Holmfirth B (7-0 over Thongsbridge C) and Marsh Lib (6-1 over Skel Windmill B) completes the picture.
