Wednesday fixtures previewed

Winter League

Preview of all the matches to be played on Wednesday this week.

Wednesday 6 November

Division 1

Not a lot should be read into the 1st versus 2nd fixture in this week's Division 1 programme as only one match as been played by each team so far. However try telling that to Meltham A or Lindley BC A as they go in search of a second win and the opportunity to stay up there where the action is for another week. Last season both teams finished in mid-table in Division 1 and both have aspirations on improving on that.

There is an interesting rerun of the Division 2 title race from last season as Cowcliffe A meet Lindley Lib A. Last season Cowcliffe won the Division 2 title and only lost one match all season and that was against Lindley Lib A. There is an additional edge to the fixture with both teams occupying the bottom two places in the latest table.

The two teams that finished 1st and 2nd in the Division 1 table in the 2023-24 season also meet up as Champions Thorpe Green A try and peg back the two points they are currently behind Lower Hopton. New Mill A had a good 4-4 draw with the reigning Champions last Wednesday and will look to build on that when they play a Kirkheaton Con A team looking for that first win of the season.

Wednesday 6 November

Division 3

The Division 3 fixture programme at Springwood was the first to start off the season and after this latest round of fixtures will pass the third of the season marker and some sort of order can be expected to emerge. Certainly Denby Dale and Lowerhouses B have had good starts to the campaign and remain the only unbeaten teams in the Division. A bigger test awaits the leaders, Denby Dale, this week as they take on third-placed Thorpe Green C whilst Lowerhouses B will expect to claim the majority of the points when they play Brockholes A.

Lockwood Con A have won 3 on the bounce after going down to Denby Dale on the opening day of the season and will expect to extend that run when they meet Springwood A this Wednesday. Huddersfield Recreation Club A have lost all 4 of their League matches to date and will be aiming to change that with a match against New Mill B.

Wednesday 6 November

Division 5

Lindley Lib C have started the Division 5 season with two straight wins on their home green to lead the table. Jackson Bridge have had a similarly impressive start to their season and this Wednesday the two leading teams meet up. One of those 100% records will go, but which one? Third-placed Kirkheaton C&BC A have to play Paddock I&C and could benefit from the top two playing each other. Elland WMC and Almondbury BC A are both expected to beat lower opposition in Springwood B and Milnsbridge C respectively and inch forward towards the top two but there is a big gap after such a short period.
