Winter League
Preview of all 12 matches scheduled for Wednesday in Divisions 1, 3 & 5
Division 1 at Milnsbridge
The reigning Division 1 Champions, Thorpe Green A, will make a third attempt to register their first win of the season when taking on Meltham A this Wednesday. The Meltham side has proven to be a bit of a bogey team for the Champions. When they were running away with the title last year they failed to beat Meltham in two attempts, losing one to 2-6 and a 4-4 draw in the other so things are unlikely to be any easier this time around.
New Mill A and Lindley Lib A are also both looking for a first wins of the season and they face teams in 2nd and 3rd positions this Wednesday. New Mill A play Cowcliffe A whilst newly promoted Lindley Lib A have the daunting task of taking points off Lower Hopton. Lindley BC A have made a good start to the season and sit top of the table at present and will be aiming to build on that when they take on Kirkheaton Con A this week.
Division 3 at Springwood
Lowerhouses B surprisingly lost their unbeaten record last week to Brockholes A by 0-8 but hang on to second place in the table. They will be looking to bounce back from that when meeting Lockwood Con A this week. The Lockwood team are also well positioned to mount a promotion challenge but need to take winning opportunities against close opponents such as Lowerhouses B.
Denby Dale have a 9-points lead at the top of the table and will be looking to extend that with a big win against Springwood A. Denby Dale completed an 8-0 double over the homesters last season and more of the same would be no surprise this time around.
The Brockholes A team will be heartened by that big win over Lowerhouses last week and should have an easier ride this Wednesday when they take on New Mill B. Hudderesfield Recreation Club currently prop the other seven teams up in the Division and they will do well to change that this week as they play 3rd placed Thorpe Green C.
Division 5 at Lindley Lib
There is a clash of the bottom two teams in Division 5 when Springwood B play Paddock I&C on Wednesday. These are the two teams that finished bottom of Divisions 4 and 3 respectively last season. The reorganisation of the Divisions saw them both end up in Division 5 this season and both are in danger of flirting with relegation once again.
Lindley Lib C are taking full advantage of playing on their own green after winning their opening three fixtures and hold the only unbeaten record in Division 5. Elland WMC are likely to push them all the way but three 8-0 wins on the bounce for the leaders is hard to argue against.
Jackson Bridge lost for the first time last week and will be looking for a quick recovery when they meet Almondbury BC A this week. A meeting of Milnsbridge C and Kirkheaton C&BC A completes the programme with the Cricket Club team well placed to kick on and register their involvement in the promotion battle that is brewing.
