Bowling News
Earlier this week we posted an online survey of 6 questions about the use of the BCGBA JustGo system to identify all the bowlers that would count towards the £1 per bowler levy to be invoiced to all bowling clubs next month.
A total of 13 clubs responded to the survey and a full copy of all the returns is below but for a taster I have just selected some key points from the survey and then added some of the additional comments made by the responders.
Key Points
Only 4 of the 13 responders (30%) said that they were happy for the JustGo data to be used to invoice their club
No club had received any face-to-face training and 3 clubs (23%) had received no training at all
It would have been useful if the BCGBA number was somewhere on the system instead of a meaningless new ME number
Only 2 clubs (15%) were confident that their JustGo records were up to date and accurate
Comments
All 13 responders took the opportunity to list some of their other experiences of JustGo and a full list is further down this posting of all the points made. I have selected a few which I think are really important.
We have no useful purpose of the system, we don't use it for anything in terms of running our club. From our point of view it's just another layer of democracy which has only one purpose.
There should be all the individuals BCGBA numbers rather than a Just Go number that is meaningless to club administrators.
It seems to me that it is going to be a herculean task for anyone to check the accuracy of the just go submissions that any club makes but I suppose they are just relying on the honesty of the submitter.
There seems to be only one person within YCCGBA who is responsible for all aspects of this system.
On contacting Yorkshire I am informed that that the missing names are on another list which I cannot view !
I have alerted Steve Cochrane (Yorkshire CCGBA Chief Executive Officer) to the results of this survey and this platform is always open to him to respond to any points raised here.
Moving on to all the actual answers to the 6 questions listed on the survey. No clubs or individuals are named in this report but all 13 left me their names and the name of the club they represent.
What position do you hold in your club? Secretary - 5 (38%) Secretary/Treasurer - 2 (15%) Committee - 1 (8%) Other - 5 (38%)
Does your club have access to the JustGo system? Yes - 13 (100%)
Have you received training on JustGo? Yes. By written instructions - 5 (38%) Yes. Training by telephone - 3 (23%) Yes. By combination of the above - 2 (15%)
No - 3 (23%) Yes. By face-to-face training - 0
How confident are you in using JustGo? I find it really difficult to use - 6 (46%) I do have problems but I can usually get around them - 6 (46%) Very confident. I can find my way around the system easily - 1 (8%) I have never successfully used the system - 0
How confident are you that your JustGo records are up to date and accurate? Not confident at all - 6 (46%) Some updating to do - 4 (30%) Seen records and need to update but cannot access - 1 (8%) Very confident - 2 (15%) Cannot access the system - 0
Are you happy for your JustGo records to be used for invoicing the club the £1 levy? Not happy at all as they are not correct and I cannot update them - 9 (70%) Yes very happy for them to be used - 4 (30%)
There was also an opportunity for the responders to add any comments on the system that they cared to make. All 13 responders took up that opportunity and here is the full set of points raised by those 13 individuals on behalf of their club.
We have received no training on the use of the system.
We have no useful purpose of the system, we don't use it for anything in terms of running our club.
I am able to delete members who have left the club or are just Social members as I understand it they do not count in the levy. This means the system doesn't represent all our club members only those who play in a team.
From our point of view it's just another layer of democracy which has only one purpose. Maybe some proper training as to its potential would change our view?
There should be all the individuals BCGBA numbers rather than a Just Go number that is meaningless to club administrators.
Up until very recently only the registrar was allowed to make alterations to the list but now it allows clubs to do them which is a major step forward.
Not fit for purpose.
People missing and other personnel on who had no idea who they were
The system needs scrapping just charge clubs a nominal fee Why should a bowler have to pay for every club he bowls instead just once for each for Yorkshire number
It seems to me that it is going to be a herculean task for anyone to check the accuracy of the just go submissions that any club makes but I suppose they are just relying on the honesty of the submitter.
I also cannot understand why they want information such as the address, telephone number, e mail address of bowlers. I would have thought the Yorkshire registration number would be sufficient.
Lots of boxes with many headings but no content.
I have received paper instructions from Yorkshire. I cannot get in to update bowlers. I have to send WhatsApp to CEO Yorkshire for him to update.
There seems to be only one person within YCCGBA who is responsible for all aspects of this system. I have been receiving "instructions" from this person by e-mail only.
It is very difficult to follow some of the instructions and on several occasions I have e-mailed updates only to find when checking our clubs member list on Just Go that some of the names requiring updates have not been done. On contacting Yorkshire I am informed that that the names are on another list which I just cannot view in spite of being given instructions. WHAT IS GOING ON??
Yorkshire are also requesting details of Public Liability insurance to input onto Just Go. Another headache.
I just think that the Just Go system is not user friendly and isn't yet good enough for club users to understand and operate.
When you are not IT literate i find it very difficult to follow, If it wasnt a case that we have to have it i would tell them to stick it where the sun does not shine.
Initially I was able to add and edit or delete. This function does not appear available to my user. As per the Yorkshire meeting request I have filled in an update paper (excel) approx 2 weeks ago. Looked a couple of days ago and not updated
The problem with invoicing on the JustGo register is that we have half a dozen on that probably won't bowl but might in the future and is easier to leave on and pay than take off and add at a later date.
The former bowling secretary for our club, who is not confident with computers, used to send written updates every year to YCCGBA. On taking over from him I did the same but spoke to Steve Cochrane who then sent me some written instructions on how to access Justgo. BCGBA sent me a username and password to enable me to do so and eventually I was able to enter Justgo and view all the members of our club, many of whom had stopped bowling or were deceased. Steve told me not to try any updating of the justgo list but inform him of any changes required. He has since told me by email that I can delete members who are no longer bowling for us but that I must not delete those who are deceased. I have managed since to tidy up our list but some members who were on it are no longer on it. I now am confident that I have my final list of more than 100 bowling members but I can't get Steve Cochrane to reply or correct the discrepancies.
I have arranged to collect £1 extra with the Bowling subs from our members, but the Justgo list and my list are not in agreement. I don;t know if it will have been updated by the deadline given, but that is not down to my club it is the responsibility of YCCGBA!
