Report on matches played in the Veterans 6-Man League on Monday 8 July
Shepley A move into contention for the 6-Man League Division 1 title after a 7-0 home win over a Skel Windmill A team whose title hopes were seriously damaged by this result. Marsh United A still make the pace at the top after a 6-1 home win over another title challenger Netherton Con. At the same time Waterloo made sure that their name continues to be included in any title talk after a 5-2 away win at Golcar C&BC.
Crosland Moor were the only winners in the bottom four as they saw off drop zone rivals Paddock I&C and leapt past them in the table and out of the relegation places.
Clayton West extended their season-long Division 2 unbeaten run but it was never a comfortable win ending in a 4-3 scoreline at home to Longwood where the 87-85 aggregate win for the Clayton West clinched their 14th straight win. Bradley & Colne had a tremendous 7-0 home win over 3rd placed Golcar Lib to close the gap on the leaders to 4 points. That also saw Marsh Lib move up a place to third after a 7-0 whitewash home win over Greenhead Park A.
It was a bad day for the bottom five teams as along with Greenhead Park A they all lost with morsels of points won by Elland C&BC, Hemplow, Linthwaite Hall and Milnsbridge B.
The Division 3 leaders, Brockholes B, had a 5-2 home win over Marsh Lib which was the minimum they would have expected and less than they had hoped for. That still gives them a 12 point lead over Denby Dale who don't play until tomorrow and have that match in hand as do third-placed Thongsbridge B who cannot be ruled out of the promotion chase.
Meltham had a good 6-1 home win over Marsh United B to bring them within one point of their rivals and made it 5 wins from their last 6 matches after losing the first 7 fixtures of the season, a remarkable turnaround. A 1-6 home defeat for Greenhead Park B by Primrose Hill Lib was a 4th successive defeat and brought them within range of the resurgent Meltham team and others. The good run of Meltham results has left Shepley B further adrift at the foot of the table not helped by Monday's 0-7 whitewash defeat at Skel Windmill B.
There are still two Division 3 fixtures to be played this week with impact at both ends of the table.
