Winter Cup: Lindley 4 Qualifiers

Winter League

The Winter Cup is up and running with two of the Division qualifiers being completed on Monday starting today with the results from Lindley Lib. There were 18 entries (17 of them are pictured below) lined up to see which four of them would progress to the Last 20 knock-out stage at Springwood in April

The four qualifiers from the Lindley Lib Division 4 Round are Ray Clayton (Netherton Con B), Peter Laycock (Marsh Lib), John Sunter (Hudd.Rec.Club B) and Paul Cooney (Lindley Lib B).

Ray Clayton had the roughest ride winning three games, two of them to 20, to reach the next stage and spending the best part of 3 hours on the green. His last game proved to be the one that almost saw him bow out of the competition. After only winning 3 of the first 12 ends and only picking up a point at each of those saw him 3-10 behind but he was up to the challenge. Amazingly Ray played exactly 90 ends over the three games. No other bowler played more than 27 ends in a match on the day.

The last four all progress to the next stage where the 20 qualifiers from all 5 Divisions will compete for a place at 1.00pm on Wednesday 12 April in the Quarter-Finals at Springwood. The 8 survivors from that episode will progress to Finals Day again at Springwood on Sunday 16 April with a 1.00pm start.

Handicaps come into play from the Round of the Last 20 on 12 April. Well done to all four on a day when the sun shone, the bacon butties were crispy and bowling won the day.
