Winter League
At the meeting of the Management Committee last Wednesday a few major changes to the League's matchday arrangements were agreed upon.
We are switching all League matches from Tuesday to Wednesday. This is primarily to avoid a clash with the Winter League at Hove Edge and it is hoped that some of the teams from that competition will be attracted by a second weekly match.
All matches will start at 12noon every week through the season.
The match format will revert to the original concept of 2 Singles and 1 Pairs games. This was altered in Season 1 to four Singles to help reduce bowler contact and address concerns about the COVID-19 implications.
Teams will be divided into Divisions of no more than 8 teams based on merit rather than geographic location as they were in Season 1. Eight teams per Division provides a 14-week season which is the optimum length of a winter competition.
Some of the changes above require a rule change to be heard at a General Meeting where all the teams will have a say in the outcome.
The full written record of the Management Committee meeting will be online very soon.
Thanks Jeff for the update. The idea of having up to eight teams in a section and the original format of two singles matches and a pairs match raises an interesting question regarding the playing order on a match day. The simple approach is to play the singles matches followed by the pairs match but having four pairs playing at the same time might cause some complications with sixteen bowlers (wandering casually across the green oblivious to everything around them) and thirty two bowls on the green at the same time. Experience from Tuesday afternoons suggests that it is bad enough when there are three pairs matches happening at the same time.
Assume that A,B,C,D,E,F,G and H are the eight…
😊I'm ok with Wednesday's thanks Jeff for updates
