Winter League season starts this week

Winter League

The Winter League season starts this week with the opening round of fixtures on Wednesday and Thursday. There has been one important late change in fixtures for Division 1 teams.

The Huddersfield Winter League has just been informed that the Milnsbridge BC green will not be available for Winter League matches until 30 October. This introduces a delay of two weeks on the previously planned start date of 16 October. This is entirely due to the recovery time that some additional maintenance work on the green will require before any bowling can take place on it. The Friday Winter League fixtures at Milnsbridge are similarly affected. The updated start date for each of the 8 divisions is at the foot of this posting. Bowlsnet has been updated to include these changes.

Meanwhile back to the opening round of fixtures scheduled for this week.

The Winter League starts its 2024-25 season this week with two divisions starting their fixture programmes. The Division 3 teams are based at Springwood on Wednesdays this season and they have their first round of fixtures this week. Bowlers are reminded that start times this seaon have been brought forward 30 minutes to 11.00am in all eight divisions.

Thorpe Green C and New Mill B came 1st and 2nd in Division 4 last season and they open their Division 3 campaigns by meeting each other. Last year they both won their 'home' fixtures against each other. Springwood A and Huddersfield Recreation Club A both drop a level after being relegated last season but find themselves on the same Springwood green that they played on last season following the reorganisation exercise.

The Division 7 fixture programme at Huddersfield RUFC on Thursday features 5 teams that played there last season along with three new teams to the League. The new boys and girls being Hanging Heaton B, Marsh Lib and Meltham B. All teams in this division need to be aware that the host club have played their Joker card which protects them from relegation should they finish in the bottom two positions at the end of the season. This is a new rule introduced this season to help host greens in manning their hosting duties by avoiding a clash with playing matches on the same day elsewhere. It means that teams finishing 3rd from bottom in Division 7 could still be relegated.

Bowlsnet usernames and passwords roll forward from last season. Team captains that cannot remember their Bowlsnet usernames and passwords should get in touch with me now for a reminder. The captains of new teams should have received their log in details this weekend by email (check your SPAM folder) but if for any reason they haven't they should contact me as well.

Team captains from Division 3 and Division 7 teams should log in and ensure that their team emergency contact names and numbers are up to date. These are used to inform team captains of matchday postponements so it is in your interest that they are up to date. Log in and go to INFO from the top border menu in Bowlnet and make any corrections and updates as required.

Here is the updated reminder of all the start dates for each division in the Winter League with the Division 1 change of date highlighted. The Division 1 fixtures previously fixed for 16 and 23 of October have now been pushed back to the first two Wednesdays in February 2025.
