Winter League
There were four 6-2 scorelines in Week 1 fixtures in Division 3 last Monday and this Monday two of those winning teams face up to each other when Lowerhouses 'B' meet Rastrick 'A' on the Thorpe Green green. The full Week 2 fixture programme is below and if the weather is as kind as it was last week we can look forward to another good day of bowling with a good crowd in attendance.
After a first week bye Lindley BC 'B' begin their season with a match against Springwood 'B' who will be looking to bounce back from an opening day loss against the early leaders Brockholes. The host club's 'C' team will be aiming to make local knowledge count when they take on the leaders this Monday in between catering duties. I understand that this will be a very different Thorpe Green team on duty this week as their rotation policy kicks in to engage all the bowlers that want to try out winter bowling. Whether that makes it a stronger team this week or not remains to be seen.
Thorpe Green are not the only team to rotate team selection among their registered bowlers. With bowlers only allowed to play for one team in the League there is no backup team to drop down to for non-selected players hence the need to keep everyone involved and a number of teams are adopting this method of keeping all bowlers engaged and involved.
Dalton is another team that is sharing playing action around their squad and after a 2-6 opening day defeat they take on Huddersfield Recreation Club 'B' who will be looking to extend their own promising start to the season. All matches start at 12noon with all four matches in action with four jacks on the green at all times.
The league table as teams head into Week 2 is below and no doubt that will change frequently over the season but that doesn't stop teams in strong positions this week dreaming of what the future might hold for them.
