Going top with a little help from their friends

League News

Lower Hopton 'A' climbed back on top of the Division 1 table with a little help from their 'B' side team-mates. A 9-3 'away' win set up the 'A' team to take-over from Thongsbridge 'A' who drew the game count at Crosland Moor but lost the aggregate by 7 points which now means a two-point deficit behind Lower Hopton 'A' and one-point less 'Aggregate For' (2024-2023) total. It is still very tight at the top and still to factor into that tussle is the Pudsey 'A' game-in-hand which could disrupt all that totally. However they will have to perform better in that catch-up match than they did last Tuesday when going down 4-8 at Dearne Sports and are now 10-points behind second placed Thongsbridge 'A' and 12 adrift of the new leaders. Despite that good win Crosland Moor remain in the relegation drop zone with only Ossett Flying Horse 'A' and Lower Hopton 'B' below them. OFH look like a hopeless case being 20 points from safety and showing no signs of recovery having lost 8 of their last 9 fixtures. Denby Grange 'A' had a good 7-5 home win over Littlemoor 'A' but again remain in the drop zone where three teams are separated by 4 points with one of those three seemingly destined to escort OFH into Division 2 for next season.

Division 2 leaders Kirkheaton Con 'A' won for the first time in their last 3 matches with a whitewash 12-0 win over Brighouse Sports and have a 15 point lead insurance as they enter a sequence of 3 matches against mid-table opponents. Two teams are locked together on 81 points as the nearest challengers to the leaders and neither shows any signs of throwing in the towel. Both had big wins this week, Woodlands Park won 11-1 at home to bottom team The Harold Club 'A' and Alverthorpe 'A' had a 9-3 victory away at Pudsey 'B'.

The two relegation places in Division 3 seem reserved for the current holders of those positions as Milnsbridge 'A' and Horbury WMC have won only one match between them all season and both are over 30 points from safety. At the top of that table Shipley confirmed their bid for the title with a third consecutive double-figure win this time by 10-2 away at bottom team Milnsbridge 'A'. Former leaders Dodworth drew 6-6 with Littlemoor 'A' dropping precious home points in the process and are now 5 points off the top with Littlemoor now just 2 points behind them although they do hold on to the second promotion place for now.

The four games in Division 4 all went to the home side and all by double-figure totals. The big win coming for leaders Thornhill C&BC who demolished second-placed Lowerhouses by 11-1 who retain that second promotion place but are now 9-points behind the leaders. Broad Oak 'A' drew level on points with Lowerhouses after recording their own 11-1 home win over bottom team Denby Grange 'B'. There were 10-2 scorelines in the other two fixtures which stirred up the bottom of the table postioning as Farsley beat Mirfield Old Bank and Ossett Flying Horse 'B' beat Kirkheaton Con 'B' as both losers now find themselves nearer the bottom than the top and in danger of becoming engaged in the mix at the bottom.

Morton House returned to winning ways after losing for the first time this season last week although it was far from a convincing performance relying on the aggregate to provide them with a 6-4 home win over mid-table Lockwood Con. They were aided by their strongest challengers for the Division 5 title, Cleckheaton Sports 'B', going down meekly to bottom team Cowcliffe Liberal 7-3 which lifted them off the foot of the table, a position quickly claimed by Marsh United as a result of a 3-7 defeat away at Alverthorpe 'B'. The third and fourth placed teams met up at Heckmondwike where the home team confirmed their league superiority over Almondbury Lib with another win dependent on winning the aggregate.

Biggest win in Division 6 this week came from Grange Moor where the home team overwhelmed second-placed Golcar Lib 9-1 which saw the visitors slip a place in the revised table. Netherton Con benefitted from that slip up after a 7-3 home win over Thorpe Green 'A' to go second behind Thongsbridge C&BC 'B' who beat Almondbury BC 8-2 to extend their lead to 6 points.

The biggest match in Division 7 saw Cleckheaton Sports 'C' defeat Broad Oak 'B' 8-2 to overtake their opponents and claim third place. Shepley are 21 points clear at the top after their latest 9-1 away win over Thorpe Green 'B' whilst Spingwood 'A' beat their 'B' team 7-3 to hold on to second place.
