West Yorkshire was the home of the first meeting of the new body of the Federation of Crown Green Bowling as this extract from the January 2000 issue of Bowls World reports. However Huddersfield doesn't really feature among the representatives involved although Leeds, Bradford, Colne Valley, Wakefield, Halifax as well as all the South Yorkshire districts are involved. Why is that? Surely it had nothing to do with the decision to allow ladies to enter all their competitions and be treated as equals. That was coupled with the decision from the outset not to have any All-Ladies competitions. Read on.


Probably Bill Blackburn may be better to answer but this was a breakaway from the Parks, Huddersfield were initially members but not until around 10 years ago did a Colne Valley team enter playing with mainly Huddersfield league & district bowlers. They soon worked their way thru the divisions to win Div 1 As matches were played on Sundays., Huddersfield area already had a crowded Sunday scene at this time with district & club comps. As with all new things, it would also have needed someone to step up to the plate to run a team
