The draws for the qualifying round of the 2023 Yorkshire Cup and the Hutchinson Cup have just been released.
I didn't understand why four teams have been given byes in the Yorkshire Cup when there are 32 entries in the competition which is the optimum number for a straight KO competition. So I asked the Yorkshire CCGBA Competition Secretary. He tells me that previous finalists in the competition are given a bye for the next three years to stop them throwing a first round game and then qualifying for the Henry Taylor Cup. I didn't know that.
