The Yorkshire CCGBA has issued notice on its Facebook page that they have only received 20 entries for this year's Yorkshire Cup with only 8 days until the closing date. This represents a 50% reduction in entries at this stage for the county's most prestigious competition. At this rate how much longer can a 125-year-old competition justify its standing as the county's top competition?
That posting prompted a lot of comments from bowlers about the competition including a very valid one from Dave Parkin that the Yorkshire Cup continues to be for 12-man teams when no League in the County runs a 12-man team league competition any more. You just can't pluck bowlers out of a hat whenever you need them.
Lots of comments about opening it up to women bowlers and YCCGBA gets slated for not promoting the competition until it gets down to this perilous state.
Last year, YC had 32 entries (30 played), The EH had 64 entries (63 played). The perfect entry numbers for Cups & still YCGBA couldn't organise it properly, promote it & see this competition continue. Currently less entries at 14 than the first ever in 1893 with 15
