Division 2 team New Mill are the 2024 Julie Fuller Trophy winners after a 60-48 triumph over Waterloo at Skelmanthorpe Windmill yesterday. Waterloo won the game count 2-1 but it is the aggregate scores that determine the winners and that went the way of New Mill as they racked up a fourth victory over Division 1 teams on their way to the title.
The +10 handicap start for the underdogs was not the determining factor in the outcome as New Mill team punched above their weight once again. They had to beat 5 different opponents to lift the trophy, four of those triumphs involved Division 1 teams. Previously Lindley Lib A, Slaithwaite and Golcar C&BC had been on the receiving ends of those upsets but their ultimate challenge was against the Division 1 high-fliers of Waterloo who are enjoying a great first season in the League.
New Mill currently occupy 5th position in the Division 2 table, 8 points off a promotion place and if they can continue to show this level of form who is to say that they won't be playing Division 1 teams every week next season?

Alongside all the on-green activity on Yorkshire Day work was ongoing on the old Windmill pub which was responsible for the bowling team's name. The pub has stood empty for a number of years and fallen into disrepair but all the activity encourages hopes of a more settled future for the bowling club after much speculation about their future landlord.
