Club News: Almondbury BC
Yorkshire Ladies XII v Yorkshire Juniors XII
Report and photographs from Robert Tracey
The evening attracted around 100 people, which made for a pleasant evening.
Yorkshire Ladies won the match with 9 winners to 3 and the aggregate score was 242 to 173.
I would like to mention the members of Almondbury Bowling Club for their hard work in organising the event. In particular I must mention Jean and John Halliwell who on behalf of Almondbury BC managed and organised the event, and the catering superbly. With the new refurbished bar the club was able to accommodate everyone in a relaxed contemporary atmosphere. It was an excellent night that I’m sure bowlers and spectators alike enjoyed.
'The competition was in memory of Eddie Swaine, the father of Vera Silcock. Vera and her husband Tony reintroduced this competition a few years ago; run as a challenge match between the Yorkshire ladies and Yorkshire Juniors (mixed). Sadly both Vera and Tony passed away in the last 12 months, and the club is determined to keep this competition going for them. They were huge supporters of Yorkshire bowling, giving both their time and generous gifts to all squads. It was a good event, and the past two times we’ve held it, it has been closely contested.
It was an excellent night and proved that Almondbury Bowling Club is now fully equipped to provide a suitable venue for such events in the future.
