Yorkshire Ladies 'Group of Death'

Bowling News

The release of the fixtures for the BCGBA Senior Ladies competition brought a reaction from Dave Parkin about Yorkshire's position in, what he called, the 'Group of Death'. This is a term first used in football for the 1986 World Cup by the Uruguay manager after his team were drawn against West Germany, Denmark and Scotland. However Dave may have a good point as the four teams in the Yorkshire group are the four semi-finalists from the 2023 competition.

Dave goes on to highlight the Yorkshire team's record against Shropshire who are the reigning Champions and who they meet in the opening round of fixtures. This also pits the last two winners of the national title against each other but even then the winner of that tie will still have much to do to progress further in the competition.

Here are Dave's thoughts on the draw.

Pleasing to see some activity to promote the County teams, mind you, It started like this last year & tailed off

Ladies are in a “Group of Death”  that includes all 4 semi-finalists from 2023.

  • Will be interesting where they play Shropshire at home

  • Since 2012, Yorkshire have played them 9 times & only won 3

  • It looks obvious to me to go to Lockwood or Meltham with the latter favourite

Dave then goes on to provide a comprehensive record of the Yorkshire v Shropshire clashes.
